Auto insurance claims are a huge deal for insurance companies. If you’re like most people, then your budget is being stretched tight these days. It is a fact though that just like death and taxes, you’re going to have to come up with those insurance premiums for your car. It might be expensive, especially if you are 25 or younger or single. It is this way because some person sitting in an insurance office determined that young people are a higher risk than people who are married, or those who are older. It might not seem fair but that’s just the way it is.

It is much too high a risk to drive without insurance on your vehicle. If you get stopped for any reason, and you don’t have insurance in most places they will impound your vehicle on the spot. This can really increase how much it’s going to cost you to drive. Not only are you going to have to pay the fines but you’re also going to have to pay the impound fees which can be really high. You will also have to provide proof of insurance before you can even get your car out of impound.

Some people claim that the average cost of auto insurance today is around $70 a month. I personally pay more than that, as my driving record isn’t perfect. And sometimes it is a real bear coming up with the premiums but it is a necessary expenditure that has to be afforded. For many people, even those who have good driving records, and their prices are around $70 amounts range no matter how good driving record they have. It might not seem fair, but that is the way it is.

Back in the good old days, people used to feel like they needed get their moneys worth out of something. For example I once had a mother-in-law that really liked having a nice car. If her car ever sustained any damage from being in a parking lot or parked alongside the road, she immediately called the insurance agent to file a claim. She thought this is what she had bought the insurance for.

If there was ever a cover on her tail light or a scratch and her fender, she started a claim. When her prices started to rise she didn’t know is going on, she didn’t have a clue that her insurance policy was only designed to pay for major damages. All that the minor claims were doing was raising a liability on her part, which was resulting in higher insurance premiums.

Before you even think about picking up the phone to make an insurance claim, you need to make sure that it is worth it. Car insurance companies, are kind of like an elephant; they never forget. Even if your insurance does cover a minor damages, you really want to make sure that it will balance out for you because of the potentially higher insurance premiums you will pay. In many instances it is a lot cheaper to just pay for the repairs yourself rather than having to pay for the increase in your premiums.

Try not to forget that insurance companies remember things for a long time, and the more claims you have against them in the higher premiums you are going to pay. If you have just a minor fender bender then you should try to get that taken care of yourself rather than make a claim for it. It is never good for your premiums to file a claim, so you should only do so in the case of a major accident. They are your premiums though, so make your own judgments just be wise because you will pay.
